The majority of household water use is outdoors. Depending on lot size and climate zone, between 30 and 70 percent of all household water is used for landscape irrigation. California native and drought tolerant plants offer a less thirsty, more environmentally friendly and eye-catching way to save water. There are many ways to save water in your landscape, some as simple as adjusting your sprinklers to run early in the morning, or late at night to avoid water loss due to evaporation and afternoon winds, adding mulch where it is necessary and installing permeable hardscapes. We have compiled a “User Guide to Water-Efficient Plants” which we hope will be helpful to you in selecting a beautiful and water wise landscape. In addition to the guide contained in the following pages, more information on water efficient plants and designs can be obtained at www.bewaterwise.com.
