Scholar Dollars Contest Provides Financial Assistance to Students Entering College

Rowland Water District (RWD) is proud to partner with the Public Water Agencies Group (PWAG) Conservation and Education Team (CET) to support the fiscal needs of high school seniors planning to attend a two-year, four-year or technical college. The Scholar Dollars program will provide a $1,000 grant to four deserving students.

“RWD values equal access to education, and we’re excited to offer this opportunity to local students pursuing college,” Gabriela Palomares said. “This year, as part of the application process, we ask scholars to consider how climate change will impact droughts and water supplies, and to identify innovative strategies that may help improve long-term water security.”

For many students, tuition and other related expenses can be a barrier to achieving academic goals. The Scholar Dollars contest helps ease the financial burden and provides an incentive to work hard and invest in an education. The scholarship promotes awareness of statewide water issues, encouraging applicants to think critically and take action to address these challenges.

Scholar Dollars is open to applicants in the CET service area with a minimum grade point average (GPA) of 2.0. Applications and essays will be accepted through February 15, 2024, at 4:30 p.m.

Proof of college acceptance is required by April 25, 2024, and verification of registration must be submitted by September 26, 2024. For more information on eligibility or to apply, please visit pwagcet.org/scholar-dollars.

Educators and applicants are encouraged to stay tuned for additional program rollout details, which will be advertised on https://www.rwd.org/high-school-programs/ and social media.
