Long-lasting partnership gives local teachers a free hands-on workshop

(Rowland Heights, Calif., October 25, 2012) One teacher from Rowland Water District’s service area was taken away from the classroom for the day to attend the annual Project WET workshop at the Frontier Project in Rancho Cucamonga, on Wednesday, October 17, 2012. RWD’s extended dedication and long-standing participation through Water Education/Water Awareness Committee (WEWAC), a water education committee devoted to promoting the efficient use of water and to increase the public awareness and education on water issues. This permits teachers with the opportunity to attend the workshop at no cost and RWD covers the cost of the substitute.

Project WET (Water Education for Teachers), is a non-profit foundation, focused on water education and dedicated to their mission of reaching children, parents, teachers and community members. The 15 teachers who attended the workshop were walked through five different hands-on activities from the Project WET curriculum guide, which are aligned with the California State Standards.

“The 14-year partnership gives us the opportunity to support teachers within our community,” said Ken Deck, RWD General Manager. “Rowland Water is extremely proud of this long-standing connection to the children and families in our service area.”

Additionally, the teachers were given supplies for one of the activities to utilize in their classroom and the comprehensive Project WET curriculum guide. Upon completing the workshop, teachers received a certificate and a gift card to Lakeshore Learning Store.
