Rowland Water District (RWD) was recently honored with the 2024 Occupational Excellence Achievement Award for exemplary workforce safety practices, demonstrating the District’s commitment to safeguarding employee well-being in the water industry.

The National Safety Council (NSC) presented the award per the Occupational Health and Safety Administration’s (OSHA) strict record-keeping requirements.  It is given to organizations that reported injuries and days away from work due to illnesses that are less than or equal to 50% of the Bureau of Labor Statistics (BLS) for its North American Industry Classification System (NAICS) code.

Given to only a select few organizations across various industries, the award underscores Rowland Water’s exceptional adherence to safety standards.

“The entire team at Rowland Water District has demonstrated that workplace safety is a top priority,” said General Manager Tom Coleman. “This award embodies our commitment to maintaining a clean and safe environment for our dedicated employees.”

RWD employs a Compliance and Safety Manager who is not only responsible for preparing and organizing reports on water quality and safety, but also conducts professional safety and compliance activities for the team to prevent injury and occupational illness.

“Our team has fostered a culture that emphasizes safety above all else,” said Compliance and Safety Manager Elisabeth Mendez. “We’re dedicated to maintaining the standard that has been set and will continue leading the charge for our industry.”

RWD’s safety initiatives include regular staff training sessions, investment in state-of-the-art safety equipment, and continuous improvement programs designed to identify and mitigate workplace hazards.
