October 25, 2024 — In recognition of Water Professionals Appreciation Week, Rowland Water District (RWD) showed its gratitude to staff by sharing their unique stories and creating fun moments for the team throughout the week of October 5-13.

Celebrated throughout California, this annual event highlights industry professionals while educating the public on their individual contributions to ensure safe and reliable potable and recycled water operations across the state.

“Every day, our team goes above and beyond to provide exceptional service, and this week is our chance to say thank you for their constant dedication,” said Rowland Water District General Manager Tom Coleman. “It’s a privilege to work alongside such talented individuals who really live out our District’s mission of providing the highest level of service to our customers.”

This year, RWD spotlighted six of its staff on its social media channels, focusing on how each plays a vital role in the District’s success and sharing the “Why?” behind their decision to work in the water industry. These six team members had a combined 48 years of experience working for the District in a variety of professions, including water systems, maintenance, finance, and human resources.

“Working for Rowland Water District for over 25 years has been an incredibly rewarding journey,” said Accounting/HR Manager Crystal Rodriguez. “I’m grateful for the friendships I’ve built and for the collaborative spirit that drives us all to care for our neighbors and our future.”

In addition to highlighting staff contributions, RWD also celebrated individuals with themed potlucks throughout the week that featured a variety of different items, including staff-grilled burgers and pancakes, nacho and trail mix bars, ice cream sundaes, a mobile coffee cart, and even edible aquifers. Employees were asked to share one word that best described their experience working with the RWD, and the responses were heartfelt and telling: family, love, fun, generous, and more.

Water Professionals Appreciation Week is an excellent opportunity to highlight the diverse careers available in the water and wastewater industries. By promoting different positions, the District is inspiring future generations to pursue careers in water.

This week-long celebration of water professionals and agencies was approved by the California legislature in 2017. Each year, it is observed from the first Saturday in October and ends on the following Sunday.
